Take your family to work day!

Between shows, Brian, my brother-in-law and night meteorologist for the local ABC station, let us into the studio to show my nephew how the green screen works.

Needless to say, we all had fun.

Tim Tam Slams all around

Michelle, just having returned from New Zealand, introduced the family to Tim Tam Slams.

What you need:
Tim Tam cookies
Hot chocolate or coffee
Good suction

Step 1: Bite two ends off the cookie.
Step 2: Place one end in your mouth and the opposite in your hot beverage
Step 3: Use the cookie like a straw, sucking up the drink until you feel the cookie become moist.
Step 4: Throw (or 'slam') the entire cookie into your mouth at once.

Wonderful!

Spin me, Uncle Eric!

Thanks to Uncle Eric's enthusiasm, looks like he got more than he asked for...

A Family Morning

This morning my family all met at the Farmer's Market.

I'll meet you in Milwaukee

This is actually Abe's photo, but today we met each other halfway (Abe from Chicago and me from Madison) in Milwaukee.

This is us in front of Lake Michigan.

May 29: Kalie's Wedding

Finally at Kalie & Luke's wedding! After the wedding everyone grabbed a cold drink, put on some sun screen, and headed out into the sun for some lawn games.

Here's the breathtaking bride mid-throw at bean bags (bean bag top left).

May 28: Ericka!

Still on my way to the wedding, I spent the next night with my dear friend Ericka, her husband, and her 2-week old kittens!

(taken with my phone)

May 27: Dani!

On my way home to NW Iowa for a wedding, I spent a night in South Dakota with my good friend Dani.

May 26: Dream Photo shoot

I didn't take a picture today, so here's one I wish I had taken.

That's right, movie promo shoot for Tremors. Dreams...

May 25: Afternoon snack

What better way to compliment a good book than with a bowl of fresh blueberries?

That's what I call a good afternoon.

May 24: The Irises are Blooming!

Taken with my phone, not my camera.

May 23: Lazy Sunday

Roscoe aka "Facey"

The humans aren't the only members of my family that enjoy this lazy Sunday.

May 22: Pizza di Roma

New York Style Pizza: big, floppy, cheap, and delicious.

Wonderful lunch with family.

May 21: Bubbles!

Green tea smoothie with tapioca pearls - lovely!

I became infatuated with tea and tapioca pearls, a.k.a. "bubble tea", in China. But only in Chicago have I found bubble smoothies!

May 20: Starved Rock

Starved Rock State Park

May 19: Shedd Aquarium

Abe and his mother in the aquarium.

I don't know about his mom, but Abe's surely developing an appetite for sushi.

(You want culture shock? Go to an aquarium with two Asians - it's like walking through an exhibit of their daily grocery list!)

May 18: Korean Barbecue

My boyfriend's mother preparing the barbecue at a great little restaurant in Chicago.

May 17: My First Paella

Tonight was my first attempt at the traditional Spanish-rice dish paella. My version was a delicious, but a touch too salty, Sage Lemon & Shrimp paella.

Not as good as what I had in Madrid, but i'll get there.

May 16: Gerbera Daisy

I forgot to take a picture today, so here's one that I took at my niece's high school graduation - May 16, 2009.

Close enough, right?

May 15: Farmer Anna

In the middle of a 7-hour tour of garage sales, Anna and I stumbled upon this beautiful old barn.

How could we resist?

May 14: Summer Dresses

Hook-Line-and-Sinker!

Old Navy's additional 50% off already-clearanced items got me.

May 13: Rewards

I decided to reward Abe after meeting the family.

May 12: May Showers and May Flowers

May 11: CHICAGO

My friend Sarah in front of the Chicago Theatre.

May 10: Millennium Park

Abe and myself visiting The Bean in Millennium Park.

I'm sneaky - he didn't know I was taking this (that's why i'm smiling).

May 9: Strolling Michigan Ave

View from the bridge on Michigan Avenue, Chicago.

May 8: Korean Cooking Lesson

Tonight Abe prepared a sardine-based Korean soup for me.

I loved the dinner and Bear, my cat, loved his cooking scraps.

May 7: Sunset

May 6: Memorial Union

Tonight was a beautiful night on the lake so Hallah and I met Abe at UW's student union.

May 5: 4 Months to Blog

Today Hallah learned that she only has 4 months to live.

If The Sun proves to be as credible of a source as it appears, I guess this blog won't make its goal of a year.

May 4: Rainbows and Security Cameras

There was a surprise waiting for me today as I walked into the parking lot of Walmart.

Security cameras weren't the only ones to capture this image.

May 3: Sunbathing

When I arrived home today, I found my cat happily sunbathing. Turns out we have mutual interests.

May 2: Cool Shadows

Look what pretty sight I found this morning as I went for a cool 8am walk.

May 1: Puzzle time

Today was the end of a long process: building, gluing, and finally framing this puzzle with my friend.

Here she is; proud of the final product.

April 30: Morning stroll

Look what I found on my walk this morning!

April 29: Petals

Yesterday the crab apple tree in my yard was in full glorious bloom - it was quite impressive. So I made a mental note to steal 5 minutes with my camera when I returned home. But it was dark and rainy by the time I got back so I decided to wait until tomorrow. However, during the night, the wind and rain picked up significantly and ravaged my poor little tree of all of its petals.

Still pretty though withered, here's my crab apple on the next morning.

April 28: Waiting and watching

While waiting for my mom to arrive for dinner at a local favorite, Pasqual's Salsaria, Abe and I watched (and laughed at) a little kids' soccer league in a park alongside the lake.

April 27: Afternoon in the sun

This afternoon Hallah, Abe, and I went to the arboretum to lay in the sun.

Here's our little friend enjoying (she was actually laughing in this picture) spring with us.

April 26: A walk in the gardens

Today Abe and I introduced a group of international friends to one of Madison's best: Olbrich Botanical Gardens.

No better way to spend a beautiful day than in a beautiful place (I love living in Madison!).

April 25: The Last of the Ranunculus

This spring I have fallen in love with ranunculus...but sadly a bit too late.

Ranunculus are an early-Springtime flower and are now dying out. So last night my mom lovingly gave me her last two from a flower arrangement.

So here they are, the last of the ranunculus.

April 24: Little India Decor

Today I promised a friend I would help them decorate for an Indian event. So I brought my own friend, Corrie, with me to help.

We had fun playing with the punjabis and saris :)
I'm more like my 10-year-old friend than I realize.

April 23: Homemade Marinara

What is a girl to do with a tub of tomatoes, handfulls of thyme, a heap of onions, and several cloves of garlic?

Make a gallon of marinara sauce, of course!

(this picture was only 1/4 of the batch)

April 22: Inappropriate Vegetables

I just wanted to make him into salsa verde, but this tomatillo decided to retaliate like Bart Simpson.

April 21: Chai with Andrea

Today my friend Andrea gave me a lesson in the way of authentic Chai tea.

No better way to start off a day than an omlet, Indian bread (that I can't spell), Chai tea, and a good friend.

Andrea's Chai Recipe (serves 1):
1) Boil 1/2 cup water
2) Add following ingredients
-Add thumb-tip of fresh ginger
-2 cloves
-1 cardamom pod (or 2)
-optional - nutmeg or 1/2 bay leaf
-1 teaspoon black tea
-1/2 cup milk
3) Boil 5 more minutes to steep

April 20: Happy birthday, Sistar!

I celebrated my sister's birthday with her today. To celebrate, i'm posting a picture of her cat Hailey (she would have to have her picture posted in its place).

Happy Birthday, Kris.
